What's Your Favorite Hoop Memory?

I have a lot, but I’ll talk about one for now since I’m feeling nostalgic. I’m originally from E. St. Louis, IL, and moved to Oxnard, CA when I was 11. That’s when I started hoopin’. Once I started, it was like an obsession, I had to at least be getting shots up everyday no matter what. Anyway, I had to be 12 or 13 on a summer trip back home to my Grandparents house. I couldn’t hoop like I wanted to because there was nowhere to hoop or so I thought until someone told me to go over to the Griffin Homes.
The Griffin Homes was an apartment complex…projects, a few blocks from the house. So I grabbed my ball, laced up the sneaks, and walked to the courts. The walk was short, and I was used to walking to hoop, because that’s what we did in Oxnard. Walked to the park, hooped till it got dark and went home. Man when I got back to the house, I thought my grandparents were gonna put belt to ass, or I’d at least get locked in the house until our flight back to CA.
See I got back to the house that day feeling like I won the day because I got to hoop. What I didn’t realize was at that time the Griffin Homes weren’t really the safest place for me to be. Coupled with the fact that I didn’t tell anyone where I was, yeah I was in trouble, but it was out of love and concern. Safe to say that was the last time I got to hoop until I got back to Cali, but I had a blast.
